Biography:
Linda Lusardi, whose career spans modelling, stage, film and TV, was born in Palmers Green, north London. At school, she was good at swimming and was even North London District 100 metres champion. She managed to pass all her CSE's but left school just as soon as she could at the age of 16.
Linda wanted to be a hairdresser - she had worked in a salon as a Saturday girl whilst at school - but decided against it as the pay was too low. Instead she became a clerk in the tax office in Holborn, London, where she was often in trouble for talking too much! Her career soon took a dramatic turn; one evening after work as she waited for a bus home, she was approached by a modelling agency, after joining them she went on to become one of Britains best known and best loved models.
Linda enjoys being on the other side of the camera, too; one of her hobbies is photography. She took a photo of Janet Street Porter that made it onto the cover of ‘The Times’ magazine.
Linda's earliest TV appearances came in 1984 when she appeared on Jim Davidson’s show and as a guest on ‘Wogan’. Her first major acting role came in 1987 when she took to the stage with a nationwide tour of the farce ‘Funny Peculiar’ closely followed by her first movie appearance - as a Greek goddess - in the film ‘Olympus Force’. Her most taxing role in those early days was as Eliza Doolittle in Shaw's ‘Pygmalion’ at the Malvern Festival in 1989.
She was a regular presenter in TV shows such as ‘A Kind of Magic’, ‘Bob's Your Uncle’, ‘It's Bizarre!’ and as the health and fitness expert on GMTV in 1993. Her acting took a big leap forward with a major part in the cult movie ‘The Zero Imperative’ in which she starred alongside former ‘Doctor Who’s’ Colin Baker and Jon Pertwee. She has appeared in ‘The Bill’, ‘Brookside’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ and is set to reprise her role as the girlfriend of ‘The Bill’s’ dodgy DS Beech this Spring. Her bubbly personality has led to her being a regular presenter on ‘Wish You Were Here’ and she has been the subject of ‘This is Your Life’ and has appeared on a ‘Royal Variety Performance’.
Linda, who is still a trim 36-24-36, is happily married to former ‘Brookside’ and ‘Coronation Street’ actor Sam Kane and they have two children, Lucy and Jack. She continues to take acting roles and is one of the country's most popular pantomime stars, often appearing alongside her husband. They actually met when they did panto together ten years ago; he was the handsome prince to her Snow White. This season, Linda’s panto broke box office records by becoming the Churchill Theatre’s fastest-selling Christmas show on record. It was a sell-out by the time it opened on 10 December. Linda is looking forward to playing the Wicked Queen appearing alongside her husband this year in “Snow White” at The Ciffs Pavilion Theatre Southend. Linda most recently appeared as a contestant on a celebrity based reality show called “The Games” for Channel 4. Where she lived and competed as an athlete. “I agreed to do ‘The Games’ because it is for charity and it is the only celebrity-based reality TV show where you are judged on your performance,” After three months intensive training, Linda surprised the British public by her performance. Not only was she 15 years older than some of the competitors but she was the only woman with children. “I just hope that by doing this I can give other people of my age an incentive to give things a go,” she says with a smile. Shortly after, Linda was snapped up by “Fitness First “ to become the face for their health and fitness centres all over the world.
Last year Linda launched her own range of health care products which are designed for women aged 30 to 50. “I had a beauty page in a national newspaper for three years and consequently tried every skincare product on the market,” said Linda on the launch of her L7 range. “I have tried every anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle cream there is and have never been totally satisfied. I could not find a range of products that offered me what I needed – so I created one.” Linda who gave up modelling 17 years ago has just been voted ‘Britians favourite pin up of all time’ by The Sun newspaper.
